Melding aspects of hardcore, industrial metal, groove metal, and even grunge at times, Code Orange has crafted their most diverse and mature sounding record to date, and it’s undoubtedly their most expansive. The aggression, attitude, and image this band has built over the last six years is extreme music at it’s best, but they’ve come to fully realize these elements on their third LP, Underneath. If there’s any band the heavy music scene should be glued to right now it’s Code Orange. And it just so happens that Spirit Adrift scratch that ‘metal’ itch a little better than Ghost.

In fact, I could see Spirit Adrift blowing up similar to how Ghost have – a band that also has taken classic metal elements and seemingly turned into the genre’s next big headliner. A lot of that is due to the phenomenal producing job done by Andrew Watt (producer Post Malone, Cardi B, Juice WRLD), who’s vision for the album aimed to blend classic heavy metal Ozzy with the crisp edge of a top 40’s album. Considering the streak of bad to sub-par albums that Ozzy has released over the last two decades, (both in his solo career and with Black Sabbath’s final studio album), Ordinary Man was Ozzy’s most surprising and considerably unique record in decades.

Ordinary Man - Ozzy Osbourneĭuring the first quarter of 2020, Ozzy Osbourne put out his much anticipated 12 th studio album, Ordinary Man. With that in mind, it’s been hard to cover all of the fantastic releases (so many of which I’ve still to check out), however, for me personally, these were the ten albums that surprised and enthralled me throughout 2020.
